Karen Farrell Memorial Scholarship

Karen Farrell Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria

Karen Farrell was a warm, wonderful friend and great communicator. She majored in communications in college. Her family would joke, "she earned her degree in talking".

Karen liked to help when she saw a need and would use her networking skills to bring about changes she wanted to see. She was able to initiate Federation Hockey at Hamburg High School by arranging meetings with the school superintendent and speaking before the school board.

Karen was a Girl Scout leader, hockey team manager, an advocate for the health of Lake Erie, a union steward in the Hamburg Central School System, where she worked, and a tireless volunteer for many fundraisers, especially the Carson Dayka Fund, which raises money for families of sick children who need to travel for medical care.

A $1,000.00 scholarship in Karen's memory will be awarded to a Hamburg High School Senior.

Candidates will be chosen primarily based on an essay of 500 words or less telling how they have used communication skills to bring about a change for the good.

Please send your name, address, college where you have been accepted, and the essay to…
